New Fence Staining

So lets take a quick deep dive and cover some of the basics around staining your new fence.

What material is the fence built from? In most cases we will be talking about wood. The two most common woods used will be pressure treated pine and cedar. If you are not sure don't worry. We will identify the species during your estimate.

Pressure Treated- These fences are generally full of moisture from the treatment process while more times than not stored outside in staging yards prior to install. This means we need to allow enough time for the wood to dry enough to accept the stain being used. Typically this is going to be between 2-3 months from the date of install. During this waiting period the wood will visibly become lighter in color as the moisture evaporates.

Cedar-With cedar fences there is generally no waiting period. Moisture contents can be checked immediately after install and stains applied. Cedar is naturally rot and insect resistant and therefore does not go through a pressure treating process. Cedar fences are generally stained in the first month following install.
